I think it'll start to be policed more effectively now local council budgets are being squeezed by central gov....fines are an easy cash cow;)

Needs insurance companies to get onboard.

Personaly I dont have any issues with the part P concept, just the inept implimentation & lack of policing get on my wick.....

And pipe fittings to protect the plumbers, and wood to protect the joiners, and cement to protect the builders, and paint to protect the decorators? You need to get over that one!

True Nicky.

Isn't it true that online companies etc, won't send a gas appliance until you have organised for a Gas Engineer to connect it all up?

That doesn't happen with Electric oven etc, though, does it?

No, as so it shouldn't.

I've seen some iffy DIY electrics, but I have to say I've seen worse by "professionals"

Part P was typical of the Blair Government, a soundbite which was good backed by a half a***d policy and no resources to police it.

Job done, move on.

As with any legislation the problem is the enforcement, unfortunately Part P is almost impossible to enforce.

Bang on. Because it was watered down so much to reduce the cost of enforcement it is now un-enforcable - ironically!

The government has three options as I see it:

1. Scrap Part P and admit it's a failure

2. Tighten up the rules and then enforce them

3. Bury it's head in the sand and pretend it was sorted 5 years ago

I know where my money lies!

Incorrect, although this was part of it.

It has been around for years but no one wanted to do anything about it.

Until,

An MP's daughter was unloading her dishwasher and simultaneously touched a metal knife rack that had one of its screws going through a diagonally installed cable and the dishwasher.

This is just an urban myth.

As we all know, from initial proposal to Law, it takes a long time for something to get on the statute books. Part P was in the final stages of becoming Law when this accident happened. It would have entered the statute books without the accident. It is pure coincidence.

Also bear in mind that the investigation and publishing of the cause of the accident did not occur until after P had become Law.

Makes you wonder i thought it was a cooker hood fitted by kitchen fitters.....

But as said before too much money is made off of this, Selecsa, Napit, NIC all the part P providers would loose money a huge amount of money and i think that they would oppose any movement to ban part P

NICEIC have over 25000 Domestic installers at
