Pre-Apprenticeship Courses

Hello everyone, new to the forum and looking for a little advice.

I'm keen to become an electrician having recently been paid off from my previous work and have seen a few pre-apprenticeship courses being offered in colleges near me. What I was wondering is if these courses are worthwhile and are they something that can make the difference between getting an apprenticeship and not getting one ?

Any help is majorly appreciated.
