The Scottish Government is committed to training youngsters and are trying to place youngsters (16 and over) with 6 months (free to employer) work based training. I have had one from my local council, who turned out to be polite but useless (and was sent back after 6 weeks)

“Key measures include our pledge to deliver 25,000 modern apprenticeships each year over the lifetime of this parliament and the commitment to every 16-19 year old who is not in an apprenticeship, in training, full-time education or a job to be offered a training place

Based on Scotlands population England / Wales should have over 200,000 apprenticships each year (based on population ratios). Remember apprenticeships in Scotland have jobs attached.

The Scottish Government are changing the procurement laws to require anyone that bids for ANY government contract in Scotland (NHS / council / water board / prison service / police / fire service etc) to have an apprenticeship framework in place.
