Alliance promotes German-Norwegian electricity trade 13.06.2013: Various companies, associations and non-governmental organizations from Germany and Norway have called for closer cooperation between the two countries on the subject of energy reform. Among others, system operators TenneT and 50 Hertz, as well as the organizations Brot für die Welt and the Federal Association for Renewable Energies, are among the companies calling for closer cooperation, especially in regard electricity trading. In times of high wind and solar energy production, Germany could export electricity to Norway, enabling Norway to retain water near its hydro plants. In times with little wind and sun, Norway could use its conserved water to generate hydro electricity, which could then be exported to Germany. To make this possible, TenneT explained, the countries are laying two submarine cables for energy transmission – the cables are expected to be operational in 2018. © PHOTON
