I was setting up my ladders inside a warehouse of an AC supply company and the manager said, try one of these,

Its simply a lump of rubber made from recycled tyres designed to stop ladders slipping or digging in . Ribbed on the bottom with a wedge on the top. Very good bit of kit, I bought the one I used.

I remember a few years ago CEF stocked a similar item made from a T shaped piece of steel with ribbed rubber mat glued on, I was under-impressed by that product and its price of around £75.

This one costs around £32 I found one  ebay link,   http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ladder-Anchor-Rubber-Foot-Step-To-Prevent-Ladder-Slippage-/221060617109?pt=UK_H_G_Ladders_RL&hash=item33783d5395
