yep, efficiency mostly. On roof installations benefit from greater air-flow behind the panels, hence run cooler, ergo more efficient. Not huge difference, but it has to be said integrated systems do look nicer. I am in the process of fitting a Zed roof system as a canopy - pretty expensive for what it is, but doubles up as shaded area for swimming pool. Most of the integrated stuff tends to be less efficient aswell, looking pretty being more important than absolute performance, but there are quite a few ideas ( mostly car porches) that use standard panels which work well, and sheer surface area can compensate for lack of performance. Biggest issue is how to hide all the cables in certain locations like when solar glass is used. Most of that sort of product is based on Amophous thin film silicone, which has almost died out due to lack of demand, albeit reports suggest it works better than normal silicone technology.

Don't forget additonal costs of say an in-roof system (about £600 on 4kWp sytem) can be offset against not having to buy 21m2  of slates or tiles for the roof, so for new build property it can be a good option.
