So in the event of a live to earth (or phase to cpc if your that way inclined) fault the lids of an AMD3 consumer supply unit (yes i said it) are made of metal how the fork are you supposed to isolate the supply? Yes I know what RCD's are for but it's not unknown for them to fail! same applies to if there's an internal fire it's gonna get hot and sparky how you gonna isolate the supply if you have to use a tool or key to open the CSU (not cooker supply unit).

I think it would be better to have external isolators fitted and some kind of busbar connection for the tails in the CSU, something made with lugs and bolts like a traditional bus bar system?

lastly has anyone found a good metal clip for holding cables in plastic trunking?

I'm mearly Pondering and pontificating and looking for amusement while the baby sleeps on me!

:)

p.s sorry for the 5ww speak I never understood what was wrong with fuse box!!! headbang

if the RCD is inside the board how does it trip if the phase incoming tail touch the cover (phase to earth)

good clips I think there are some made for the fire alarm guys that fit inside MT2 trunking.

To most people it's still a "fuse box" even if it doesn't have fuses in. Just as their Dyson vacuum cleaner is a "hoover"

I don't see your problem though, the switch dolly is plastic usually so as long as you don't touch the metal bits?

Not many "Amd 3" consumer units on sale yet are there? let alone metal cable clips for t&e (like the old buckle clips?)

Just how are we supposed to comply if the kit is not easily available?

I'm guessing there will still be a lot of plastic CU's fitted for some time yet......

I'm jus picking holes in things really but I am convinced this hasnt been thought about properly! :(

contactum AMD3 CSU's have locks! what if you loose the firkin key and have an internal L > E fault then you really are doomed

"scuse me luv where's your consumer supply unit?"

"you wot luv?"

:slap

Denmans have  Eaton  ( AKA  MEM)   metal consumer units  which would look OK in a factory but you wouldn't want it in your hallway .   Very industrial looking .   However its not our problem .................as with many things in our trade ..decisions are made & passed down to the rank & file to get on with .

I shall be fitting plastic boards on domestic until I'm dragged off screaming TBH

There are millions fitted and not bursting into flames .............even the old wooden ones don't burn .

I am struggling at the moment to find a metal CU to fit SBS daves compact RCBOs in....anybody got any pointers?

CGD do one....but there stuff is usually sh'ite

Eaton do one BUT it is equivalent in cost to the national debt of a small principality

Curses upon you LFB....why not address the cause of the fire instead of just sealing it in a metal box?

Or am I just being picky

Maybe that's the trick? All these hipster café's with their £3 cortardo's, galv is making a comeback! maybe some polished pyro will be the next big thing? then we won't have to worry about fireproof stuffing glands?

@pony this the stuff ?http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/131495946184?limghlpsr=true&hlpv=2&ops=true&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=108&chn=ps&device=m&rlsatarget=&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0-L&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=108&ul_ref=http%253A%252F%252Frover.ebay.com%252Frover%252F1%252F710-134428-41853-0%252F2%253Fipn%253Dicep%2526icep_id%253D67%2526mtid%253D1673%2526kwid%253D1%2526crlp%253D50600204586_563391%2526icep_item_id%253D131495946184%2526itemid%253D131495946184%2526icep_meta_categ_id%253D11700%2526icep_etrs%253DN%2526icep_epid%253D-999%2526icep_ctlg%253D-999%2526icep_cond%253DNew%2526targetid%253D75951457506%2526rlsatarget%253D%2526rpc%253D0.14%2526rpc_upld_id%253D50036%2526device%253Dm%2526icep_msku_flag%253Dn%2526icep_cbt%253Dn%2526adtype%253Dpla%2526gclid%253DCjwKEAjwhbCrBRCO7-e7vuXqiT4SJAB2B5u7DQL1wB1DAqMkyoBVEbAk9TY0Jw8il3m4or8-wqPvfxoC_NPw_wcB%2526srcrot%253D710-134428-41853-0%2526rvr_id%253D840269009862&ul_ref=http%3A%2F%2Frover.ebay.com%2Frover%2F1%2F710-134428-41853-0%2F2%3Fipn%3Dicep%26icep_id%3D67%26mtid%3D1673%26kwid%3D1%26crlp%3D50600204586_563391%26icep_item_id%3D131495946184%26itemid%3D131495946184%26icep_meta_categ_id%3D11700%26icep_etrs%3DN%26icep_epid%3D-999%26icep_ctlg%3D-999%26icep_cond%3DNew%26targetid%3D75951457506%26rlsatarget%3D%26rpc%3D0.14%26rpc_upld_id%3D50036%26device%3Dm%26icep_msku_flag%3Dn%26icep_cbt%3Dn%26adtype%3Dpla%26gclid%3DCjwKEAjwhbCrBRCO7-e7vuXqiT4SJAB2B5u7DQL1wB1DAqMkyoBVEbAk9TY0Jw8il3m4or8-wqPvfxoC_NPw_wcB%26srcrot%3D710-134428-41853-0%26rvr_id%3D840269009862&_mwBanner=1

= :D

I am picking up a couple of the new Wylex boards tommorow. The only 1 item they have out is a 16 way box so after the main switch 14 ways or 10 if made up as a duel rcd.
Also why external isolators would be good to free up 2 extra ways! :)
