This is looking familiar! Currently self building an extension........

Why did I decide to tackle this less than a year after going self employed????

I did the setting out to actually dig the trenches (measured out and painted lines on the ground)

The builders then set it out with sticks firstly to check I had dug the trenches correctly, and then they use string lines from them to lay the blocks.

Here's the first picture of the blocks being laid

Yes the structural engineer specified mesh in the concrete foundation.

Looks good Dave, take it you had to add mesh as it was mixed soil type, that is the problem I had when building my workshop, half may trench was dirt the other half was stone and mesh had to go in at the transition.

I think the mesh was specified to enable it to be build on the layer of sandy clay soil that was about a metre or so down, rather than having to dig much deeper to reach rock.

He also specified 600mm wide and minimum 200mm thick and a strong rc30 concrete mix.

So still for sale, 5 bedrooms, 3 en-suite, detached, double garage with workshop.

There must be someone who has had enough of the rat race and fancies a better life?

Let me remind you what it looks like

Today I would agree with that.

Heavy rain, work on the plot has stopped as its turning to a swamp.

Today's weather on the plot:
