pretty much sums it up, and governmant stopped supporting the R&D/ industry in general. It was expensive, but it generated far more revenue than it cost

Harrier Jump Jet!

Effing AWESOME....end of!

Occasionally came in for a tweak at a "military facility" 100m from daughters back garden SAW ONE HOVERING AT END OF RUNWAY, WE WAVED, HE WAVED BACK AND DIPPED THE NOSE, DID A 360. Nodded, stood it on its arshe and let the clutch out

One of the FEW things that make you proud to be British!...along with the storming of any foreign Embassy!

No offence

We used to see them a lot

To see one come in full tilt, stop,in mid air, turn 180 then set off again....makes tye hairs on the back of your neck stand on end.

Nice to see the Typhoon when they let the clutch out as well...

Just British

We must be the dumbest nation that there is, we have had a wealth of genius designers/engineers etc that have graced this earth, yet here we are selling off all our best assets, or even worst case scenario just binning them, begs the question what happens when the countries that have bought our so called obselete equipment against us?

Don't somehow think that the euro fighter is as versatile as the old harrier?

And we're supposed to be the clever ones in the world!!

You know that new aircraft carrier. You know the one that comes as an airfix kit to be glued together somewhere in Scotland?

Well a bit of it was photographed doing a secret test of the new generation of jump jets doing a vertical take off.

Don't need one for VTOL

I believe they have called these new vertical take off jets "Easy Jet"

Technically incorrect, in order to take off it has to have been landed?

And like Ryan Air it may well land close or "near to" the Aircraft Carrier
