Hi.. Hope someone can help.

i have a cable/track low voltage system in my kitchen and the transformer has blown.

I have tried finding the transformer online but think it has been discontinued.

the original lighting system was a Massive or Mastec Model: DE-105-12T

PRI: 230V/50Hz

SEC: 12v

for a maximum of 5 x 20 v lamps.

my question is: if I can't find an exact replacement transformer (happy to know of a supply) then can someone suggest an alternative I can wire into the lighting housing?

many thanks

mark

Hi, I have the exact same problem as listed here and wondered what was done to fix or if someone had a suggestion for a suitable transformer as a replacement for the same one listed here. TIA

Any 12V lighting transformer rated just a bit higher than the max rating of the lamps in use.  It almost certainly will look completely different to the original transformer which is probably what is confusing everyone.

Hi ProDave, many thanks for the message - much appreciated. It will be used for a ceiling wire track light which has 5 x 12V 20W MR16 Halogen bulbs.

Would something like this be right:

https://www.screwfix.com/p/robus-electronic-transformer-35-105va/92658#product_additional_details_container

Or maybe this (the 120W option):

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F292329080875

The one I have is like this and unfortunately I am restricted to length as it has to fit inside the circular ceiling mounted also pictured, which is about 120mm length space:

If anyone has any recommendations to what I could use with a link then would be greatly appreciated - Screwfix would be ideal so I can get it right away, but can wait for an eBay/web option too. TIA

The 105watt supply would work with 5x20 lamps (100w)  BUT.......

it is possible that if the lamps are a cheapish quality when they blow, it could damage the transformer.

I would look for at least 120w or maybe 150w to give a bit more robustness for when the lamps pop!

But Obviously you do have the physical limitations of getting it inside the fitting as well.

I did do a repair on a 4 lamp fitting, but was able to split the internal lamp wiring between 2x60 transformers each working 2 lamps.

and 2x smaller trannies fitted better than on bigger one.

Many thanks 'Special Location' for the advice. Think the one below is the one that I need and found one eBay which should fit in the enclosure. Found a listing on Ali express just so you all can confirm that this is the one for me - sorry for all the asks but I think it's best to get someone with the knowledge to confirm rather than me trying to guess and create a dangerous situation!

Thanks 'Blue Duck'. I know what you mean but I am seriously struggling to find anything local in the UK which suits what I need and also within the dimensions I am limited to. Please, by all means let me know if you know of something UK based as I would certainly be happier with that too. Also, just out of curiosity, would the one I found at Ali express be the right one? Just wanted to make sure that I understand what I found was right and what to aim for from the UK.

I worry about the safety of some of the directly imported Chinese mains gear. I've opened up some samples and found poor engineering standards which could present both fire risk and electrocution risk. Also a lot of it is designed for 220volts and has a short life on our supplies, which in my area at least are nearer 240 and sometimes above.

How deep is the housing? Why not look at Toroidal transformers, as the housing is round,  rather than long narrow ones? Is one of these any good.

Thanks Doc H. The diameter could just work but the depth is looking like it would be too deep.

I know what you mean Geoff, my thoughts exactly. Just finding it hard to find anything that I can use to fit in the enclosure.

Could you not update the lamps to LED types? A suitable driver is probably smaller than the old transformer.
I suppose that's another option in which case I might as well replace the wire lights with something else... But ideally would like to keep it as I have another on the other side of the room so they are matched.
