Nothing wrong with a bit of poetry or literature Badger, but I have moved this from the "introduce yourself" to "general chat" forum. I would imagine any members who appreciate music by people such as Bob Dylan could be those with poetic tendencies

I Dreamt I met my Nan again.

I fell asleep as you normally do.
And through the night I dreamt of you
I dreamt we'd met in our local town
And gone for coffee with toast so brown

I thought the dream was really strange
We met again for a nice change
Ive missed you since you left this earth
I hope you know what you where worth

Its not a mone-try amount
But in my heart your always about
When you passed my heart hit the floor
Please watch over me for evermore.

heres one i wrote in memory of my close friend

Is that a hint at me by any chance Doc :innocent

Badger,  you're obviously missing someone ,my cousin gave me this when my Mom died ,  I brought it to mind last year when I buried my brother in Wales last year.

Death is nothing at all

I have only slipped away into the next room

I am I and you are you

Whatever we were to each other

That we still are.

I am but waiting for you

for an interval

Somewhere . Very near

Just around the corner

All is well

I must confess that I have never really understood poetry....I am always confused about what is and what isn't.

i did it at school...iambic pentameter, and other stuff

however I do,admit to liking Dr John Cooper_Clarks stuff

the only classical ones I can remember a bit of

In Xanadu did Kublha Khan, a stately pleasure dome decree

where Alf the sacred river ran

through caverns measureless to Man

down to a sunlit sea

Dulce et decorum est, pro patria in mori

My literary ignorance knows NO bounds

Oh, and Baldricks

Boom boom, boom boom

Boom boom, boom boom

Boom boom, boom boom

Boom boom, boom !

To me poetry and story writing is what YOU want it to be not what a text book tells you to write I think writing is very personal and the site we have setup is there for people to express themselves how ever they feel they should I think it's all about what you as a person wants to write

some of Spike Milligans ramblings always made me laugh.
On the Ning Nang Nong
Where the Cows go Bong!
and the monkeys all say BOO!
There's a Nong Nang Ning
Where the trees go Ping!
And the tea pots jibber jabber joo.
On the Nong Ning Nang
All the mice go Clang
And you just can't catch 'em when they do!
So its Ning Nang Nong
Cows go Bong!
Nong Nang Ning
Trees go ping
Nong Ning Nang
The mice go Clang
What a noisy place to belong
is the Ning Nang Ning Nang Nong!!

somehow Spike had slipped my mind....prob Mr Merlots fault

I'm fairly sure I have an old cassette of the Goons if any member wants it,

No guarantees, but I'll have a look for it at the weekend if it takes your fancy.

I do not think this classes as Poetry, but one of my pet hates ( yes, I know it's hard to believe but I do have a few) is the Rhyming Couplet that they have after the text on Rupert the Bear Cartoons. Seriously!.......I get gooses bumps and feel nauseous .  I cannot explain it BUT it really affects me. I probably need to get out more

My sister had a couple of poems published in a book a few years ago, she's quite a good writer, anyone remember Pam Ayres, she was a mad poet, or Tony's favourite, the Vogons?

I too think that good poetry needn't rhyme, it's about understanding the words, and the feelings of the writer, not just words that rhyme.

Ah yes, the VOGONS

they receive little publicity ( and rightly so in my opinion )...so the only available example seems to be

Oh freddled gruntbuggly,

Thy micturations are to me,

As plurdled gabbleblotchits,

On a lurgid bee,

That mordiously hath blurted out,

Its earted jurtles,

Into a rancid festering confectious organ squealer.

Now the jurpling slayjid agrocrustles,

Are slurping hagrilly up the axlegrurts,

And living glupules frart and stipulate,

Like jowling meated liverslime,

Groop, I implore thee, my foonting turlingdromes,

And hooptiously drangle me,

With crinkly bindlewurdles,mashurbitries.

Or else I shall rend thee in the gobberwarts with my blurglecruncheon,

See if I don't!
