Hello Chaps

Can anyone explain the difference between 2 low test on ELI and 3 low test on ELI. Clearly the connection to the neutral alters the reading but what is point of the test in the first place, and why is it needed as ELI is the fault path along the phase and cpc.

A low current test is used to avoid tripping RCD's on the circuit, normally they are done using 3 leads, however a 2 lead test is usually performed at light switches, for example, where quite often there is no neutral

As far as I'm aware on a 3 lead test the meter also checks to make sure that there is only a voltage on the live conductor, not on the neutral or earth, I know my meter will not perform any live test if it detects anything more than about 10 volts sat on either the neutral or earth conductors.
