Hi,

We bought our house which has an electrical fire wired into the mains with a switch that turns it on and off.

My wife has decided that she doesn't like it and wants me to swap it for our electric fire that we bought. It has a plug and is usually plugged into the mains socket.

Can I just swap the fires over so that the fire with the plug can be wired into the switch? I would just copy the existing wiring solution.

Is it that simple or are there things I need to do or look out for. Obviously I would turn off the electrics before starting.

Thanks.

Yes. Take a photo or make a diagram how the switch is wired before disconecting the old one, and connect the new one the same.

Destroy and remove the fuse from the plug you cut off so nobody can plug it in and grab hold of the cut off bit of wire.

And turn the circuit off at the consumer unit first.

Or the other option is replace the fused switch connection with a standard socket outlet.
