It’s not about his age or his pay, it’s about the experience and knowledge he is learning for the benefit of his future.

not sure actually. first result from google i found says they are, but looking at this (which should be accurate) then it may be £3.50 until he's 19

Jib rates are only applied by a company if they are Jib registered, if not then they do tend to apply lower rates.

Rob.

What is he being paid? Why is the reason you're asking?

You have to remember, even a second year guy is still a burden to the company, an he is getting paid, albeit not much for hands on training.

I don't agree with using them as slave labour, or a dogsbody.

:slap no!

Apprentices are on lower rate £5.60 an hour 18-20, it reflects the fact that we have costs to train them.

NB 1st year apprentices get a lower rate regardless.

It puts many youngsters off apprenticeships - they can get a job at Tesco on higher money. By the time they have worked out that an apprenticeship mihjt be  agood idea, you tend to find you have to pay as an mature apprentice, which puts off potential employers.

Think my apprentice wage was £15 a week - dole money was about the same.
