hi i have a chandelier been shortened at wire, now when looking to fix it up all wires are clear plastic and silver wire inside  .. how do i identify live etc !! 

 
You will either have to do a continuity test on each wire or if you look very closely it is possible there are faint coloured stripes within the wire (not easy to see).

 
How many wires are there Sophie  ?  It may not matter  depending on the type of fitting . 

Do you put 240 Volt  lamps  with bayonet caps  (BC)  in or are they screw caps (ES)   240 Volt  or are they some other type ?  

Is the chandelier made of metal  and if so can you see a wire attached to the metal  , possibly green/yellow stripes . ?
