Home for the terminally bewildered, one step ahead
a mate asked me if I could fix his lightswitch back to the wall as it had been hanging off since he bought the place about 5 years ago!...he doesn't rush things

can you spot the slight problem?

Yes you have spotted the two  1 1/2" OBO nails

first tw@ed through the left hand lug

second rammed behind the  right hand lug

absolutely solid

it begs the question, Why?

So do you mean those lugs are not for holding the nail before you whack it?  protecting your fingers from hammer blows and any blood smudges on the wall paper if you do hit the end of your finger?  Every day is a school day!

Those nails were used to hold the box whilst the browning set, only the plonker didn’t think how they were to be removed once set.

They clearly didn’t have any screws at the time so used the holes that accomodated the smaller diameter nail????  What’s your problem :coat

What a shame you are going to have to trash that lovely wallpaper to dig the box out and replace it.

Or glue the switch in place with sticks like.....

Twatted nails about 50 times each with nail punch and hammer to loosen grip

subtle riving and wrestling with some mole grips and leverage got them out

retapped box

job done

Rene Macintosh hand printed wall coverings in tact

Not bad work for someone not long in the game, it’s good you’ve used your initiative nor many new guys know how too!!
