Guys, not sure if you are aware but there is a petition running to try and get the Government to do something about tool theft from vans, whether that is sentencing, pushing the van manufacturers to improve security etc.

It's run by a plumber, but please, don't hold that against him, he's one of the good guys.

If you can see your way to supporting this, and if you can pass it on also that would be awesome.

The more people that support this, the more chance there is of something being done.

The plumber was on Radio WM  this morning ...he  put his case forward with great skill  I must say .      

Had six vans done over in our area this week already, it's Tuesday.

All the police do is hand out crime reference numbers as they're too busy handing out drink drive leaflets to chase down proper criminals.. 

I've put this on here before  but its pertinent to today .....my old Escort was  broken into outside  a printing works we working at .   One of the staff was looking out of an upper window , suspecting nothing ,  watches a car  pull in ,  a bloke walks across  behind my van , casually looks up & down  , then in seconds  he rams a T bar into the back door lock ,  grabs  two Bosch cases and our dummy  Hilti case with  a brick in it  right behind the back doors....... and gone !!! 

But  widow guy had taken the number ...but even thats a waste of time  because  I badgered the police  for 6 months   but they were not prepared act on the reg number .    "Well it could be a false plate  , it hasn't been checked "  

We actually saw the Scrotemobile in the area    , months later ,  told the cops we would follow it next time ,  they said if we did we could be arrested .  :C

It's all a load of carp! The problem with the police, and as some of you know I come into contact with them professionally on a fairly regular basis, is they are now points driven, to prove they are doing their job they have to amass a certain number of points each month, and this is where it falls down. So, here we go, you spot a bloke breaking into your van and go out to deal with him, during the struggle he hits you, so you hit him back. You detain him and call the police, who, because you have him detained will turn up pretty sharpish, this is where it all starts to fall down!

The officer attends to deal with a reported crime, so, he scores 1 point towards his monthly tally, you tell him the story and of course mention that he hit you.Now, the officer asks how you reacted to this, you, in all honesty tell him that you punched him back. Excellent, because that too is a crime, only that, because it only came out as a result of him asking you questions, is classed as a detected crime, and that gives him 2 points! can you see where this is going yet?

Now although should you ask any police officer about this, they will, of course, deny it's existence, "no such policy" they'll insist. But believe me it does, watch any police documantary, 2 cops stop a car, it has a bald tyre and the driver has no licence, notice how one takes the collar for the bald tyre, earning 2 points, and the other takes the collar for no driving licence, also earning 2 points. If such a policy didn't exist, then why share the arrest? many years ago when I was very actively involved with mu local force, it was simple, you made the collar, you got the pat on the back, unless something happened like happened to me in the early hours of that winters morning.

I was driving along a dark road around 2 am and almost ran over a lad pushing a wheelbarrow, he looked dodgy and legged it, I caught him around the corner, he was wearing 2 pairs of trousers and 2 tops(an old trick to change their appearance) anyway he has in his possession a load of jewellery, he's obviously been at it! He's taken to the local nick and I arrange to go in later and do my statement, I arrive about an hour and a half later and present myself to the custody sergeant, we're halfway through my statement and all hell breaks loose in the cells.

He rushes to deal with it and on his return is cursing me for spoiling what had previously been a quiet night, It transpired that the lad I'd caught was only 15, so, they'd had to bring his mother in before they could interview him, he was a bit, lets say uncooperative, so, they'd put him and his mother in a cell, perhaps she could talk some sense into him!

Unfortunately, his attitude didn't improve, neither did his mothers patience, the aftermath of this little incident left 2 people in custody, the young man (it turned out he'd broken into a farmhouse) for burglary, and his mother for assault occasioning actual bodily harm! It must have been the only time a prisoner got roughed up in the cells and the cops were NOT responsible.
