Hi guys, I am having problems with a new...Newlec storage heater,  it is switched off at both wall switches (economy 7  +fan) but according to our smart meter it is using electric overnight, have you any ideas why???

Are you 100% sure its the storage heater? Is it getting warm/hot?

How many units are being recorded nightly?

Economy 7 overnight records all electricity used in your property, so it could be all the other appliances you have plugged in

Before the heater was installed, when I got up at 4am the smart meter read 5p usage, since it was installed it's reading 28p usage ??? Both switches are off???

The heater isn't warming up either?

Modern storage heaters are forced by EU law (LOT20) to have clever energy saving controls.  So there will be a circuit board and probably a display panel on the heater that is now running 24/7 and consuming some power.  In this case it looks to be using  about 23p worth overnight, which does sound quite a lot.

The op says both switches are off so it shouldn't be anything to do with the storage heater

Wonder how he heats his water?

That said, that's not really enough to reflect the usage of an immersion heater

As Murdoch  said  ,   ALL your electricity goes on the E7   Tariff for  7 hours during the night  , your heater is shut down , so  the 28p  must be ...you tell us :-

Night light for the kids ?

Computers , TV on standby ?

Bedside radio on all night ?

Devices recharging ?

Computer hub ?

Fridges & freezers ?
