Timer for a fluorescent light.

Hi, probably a little eccentric an idea but I have bought a 24 hour timer switch (live and neutral supply and load) to control a fluorescent tube light. I was going to mount it above the light switch which would be still in use. I KNOW THAT A LIGHTS WITCH DOESN'T HAVE A NEUTRAL. Can I still use the old lights with and timer ( which has a permanent "on" function.) to control the light when the house is unoccupied ? A wiring diagram would be appreciated if possible. Thanks for any help. 

Some light switches do have a neutral in the back box, depends how it was wired.  But no neutral and your timer won't work.

There used to be a timer available that replaced a light switch....it cleverly got its neutral through the connected load. If I recall it was capable of fixed times and could also be set to random times that operated either side of the presets.  Don't ask me what make it was as it was a while ago
