Hi all.

I'm looking to replace the existing plastic pendant in my dining room with a Dunlem metal light fitting. I've already successfully completed this in my lounge but the dining room pendant has 2 earths behind the fixing plate? Can anyone confirm if these need to be connected to the new fixture or do they need to remain in the space above the light?

Thanks

If you have a metal fitting then you shall need to earth the fitting, otherwise in fault you may be brown bread!

Have you put earths in place on lounge fitting?

Those earths should all have been joined together and connected to the earth terminal in the old pendant.

If they have been left above the ceiling and more worryingly not even joined together, then there is a real possibility that parts of your lighting system are not properly earthed.

So for peace of mind I recommend you get an electrician to fit this particular light and in doing so test the integrity of the earthing.
