Hi,

Excuse my ignorance of electrical matters, but I’ve just moved into a new flat which has a  Dimplex Storage Heater CXL N and I’m more used to the standard water based radiators.

It does say on it that it should not be covered but would it be ok to surround it with a radiator cover, which wouldn’t be touching it?

Many thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Best wishes & stay safe,

Paul

A radiator cover would elevate the temperature inside the cover so the heater will not work as well. it will think it has heated up fully sooner than it might otherwise and not let out as much heat as it otherwise would.

There is also the risk of it tripping the overheat cut out.

But I have seen them used so give it a try and see.

Op , given you know the make and model maybe look at the manufacturers installation instructions as these normally give minimum distances for shelves etc

 hope this helps

Any cover reduces the effectiveness of any radiator to some extent.

If you are used to a hot water system you may find storage heaters rather disappointing anyway. If I were you, I would leave them alone until you've used them for a few seasons.
