The gloss has yellowed on the doors because it is oil based and not been exposed to UV.

The two plugs are the ends of an extension lead, up & over the door way..
to continue the ring circuit between two sockets..
that was broken when the doorway was put in/widened.....

If the flex goes over the doorway ...with a plug on either end then its the dreaded "Widow Maker" configuration .

Well listening to the utter s. H. Y. T. E. Talked in the wholesalers by the toolbelt logo'd engineers I feel like I know nothing :coat
I find most of the s. h. y. t. e is spoken behind the counters of the the 2nd tier sellers of places like screwfix and wickes etc al

well you should stop going into plumbers merchants then, only they are the true engineers, they all tell you that.
Why are there plugs on bits of cable?? One bit appears to run up the door frame??

You have to wonder at the logic that took the perpetrator there.
They were presumably happy as long as the sockets worked at all.
If they understood the principle of the ring then they should realise it would still work as two radials, so how did they think they were improving it with that bodge?

because sockets have to go on a ring of course :slap
the fact that said ring now has 2 off 13A fuses in it clearly escaped their realms of knowledge....
