A couple of weeks ago I received though my letterbox, by hand, but addressed to me a catalogue from a Lighting Manufacturer ........ and a Rep called me today ...... so I asked them how they got my address (I assumed it was Elex) - the answer my CPS - so should my CPS be handing out all its members details without their permission?

Honestly I don't recall being asked if they can .........

Thoughts?

You need to write to your CPS and ask for a copy of their privacy policy and what they do with your Data in writing. Do not at this point advise them as to why. You are legally entitled to it.

see how it reads when you get it.
It may be that they stare in the small print that they share your details with their third party associate companies-  in which case you may not have an argument however you may wish to contact

I believe they have just fined a major company for a breach.

Aren't all contact details for all CPS members of all scheme in the public domain via the competent persons website?

https://www.electricalcompetentperson.co.uk/

and/or via the Find A Contractor page of a schemes website..

https://search.napit.org.uk/

http://www.elecsa.co.uk/Find-a-Contractor.aspx

etc...

Not that difficult for a rep to do a postcode search for all potential contractors in an area where he/she wants to go and hand-deliver some sales brochures....

Acceptance of them passing your details onto 3rd party companies has to by specific opt in,, not opt out, like it used to be

GDPR ruined my brothers direct marketing business (targeted direct mail,,, not the scatter gun type stuff you used to get)

Hhhhhm  as Specs says  we are all on the public list so not that difficult to lift details.

Its a strange world these days .....as I mentioned before ,   my  business  email  is  gmail   ,(Google)   I sent out two emails to the printer I look after , one  a quote  to one of the  directors I had never emailed before  ...another some info to the  director I always deal with  .

Few days later Missus says look at Facebook   ( I rarely do)   something about my niece ........  there,s a photo  of director 1  with his kids on a day out  and director at a pee -up somewhere .       Gmail   is Google   ....Facebook is Google   I believe .     Was someone able to see my quote   and  read whatever  second email said .?
