Barn find! Literally. A started /abandoned rewire...in a barn. From some sleuthing, seemingly the stuff below is polythene inslated cable with a pvc sheath to BS1557. So 3-cores, red, white & blue, no earth, Imperial 3/0.29 I think, 3 tinned strands per core equates to about 2.98mm2. It's like new. That reg was withdrawn in 1954!

@ProDave said he's seen it once before.

Yes, but lets be clear I have never installed any. I am not THAT old.  I saw some once and had to rub my eyes I thought the yellow had faded.

How much do you have?  You have seen how much red & black used to sell for on ebay, I wonder what this would fetch?

Love finding stuff like that.

Did some work on a 1900's house last year and found some lead sheathed T&E (not connected) under a floor - out of interest I did an IR test on it and it was really good too. Kept a short length for my museum!

😂 I have no idea. It's that house clearance I said about, well more a smallholding. 5 acres plus with multiple outbuildings with asbestos roofs caved in/leaking. Gems like this coming out of there.

Just a pity it's not mine.

Looks like they ran all the cables to where the cu was going to go then just stopped. Same with the ceiling, half done in T&G. Pianos, slate bed billiards tables, mowers, furniture, cars, most of it rotten:

It just gets better:

I think 3/0.29 is about 1.3mm². Isn't it 7/0.29 thats 2.97mm² which they used for rings

there was also 3/0.36 which was somewhere like 1.8mm²

I can remember a school not far from here, cable as pictured was used to 2 way the staffrom light switch, no earth, but the boxes had those nylon blocks in. Early 60's install, the original fuseboards were the bill cast iron re-wireable ones, with the wingnuts to open the door

I think there's some of them there actually.

My mistake I read 7/.029 instead of 3/.029!

It is dark in there. You can just see the bunch of wires in front of that grill to the left of the door.

Crikey! Have you bought this place or just working there?  It looks a major challenge for someone.

😂 Not mine. Being sold after an elderly reclusive died locally. Reclusive is probably the wrong word, private maybe? That's one of about 10 "sheds"! The sort of place where you're confronted by head high tat and when at the end of a long day you can just see the tail light of a Morris Minor poking out...that you didn't know was there. Hoarding on an epic scale.

That's a selenium rectifier on that charger, not seen one of those since I was a boy.

What is going to happen to it all?

The charger and vice are mine!

Most of the furniture is getting burnt, lots with woodworm which is now just furniture shaped powder.
