Hi this is my first post. Can someone tell me do I need extra RCD unit for outside use ie lawnmowers and electrical tools? is it better to have a built in RCD within a outside socket or a separate plug in RCD unit?

To be honest if your sockets don’t have RCD protection built into the fuseboard, then that’s what you really need to improve

Definitely DO NOT use a lawnmower without an RCD. The risk of sudden death is real, should a moment's inattention snag the lead..

Any RCD is better than no RCD but as already stated the best place for one is in the house distribution board.

A portable plug in one is ideal if you decide to do a neighbour a favour by cutting their grass but you don't know if their sockets are protected.
