Three phase roller door on single phase

Hi New member I have been away from the tools for a few years (good few like 16th edition!) So I'm a bit rusty so please be gentle I am wiring a new steel frame workshop the shed erector has fitted 3 phase roller doors but we only have single phase supply he told the customer he could get a phase converter I know they have come on a bit but I take it that they are still basically useless? The customer is a friend and I thought I would ask before telling him he needs to replace with single phase set up thanks 

what control gear is used? some are capable of both single and 3 phase
