So while not exactly unexpected, HRH the Duke Of Edinburgh has passed away aged 99. Respect, condolences, and best wishes to those who are close family members who have lost a loved one. (All families no matter what the background will still be feeling loss and sadness just as any other family).  I was wondering if many forum members, or their immediate family relatives, have had any direct contact with HRH DofE or the DofE award scheme he instigated?

Granddaughter has just been awarded a scholarship to the DoE award scheme.
that’s as close as any of our family has come to the royals bar knowing a former bodyguard.

RIP to the Duke - to serve this country until he was 96 is an achievement that many of the  newer Royal Family "hanger onerers" should take note.

Our son did the Bronze and Silver awards when he was in Scouting - I would say it helped his personal development a lot.
