Can anyone tell me what the heat proof board meterial is where wire is wrapped around? I have a sealing iron and the heating element wire was broke. The wire is wound around some kind of silver board material and sandwiched between two other boards of the same type, unfortunatly this material just broke up when I was disasembeling it. I know I can get the wire but where can I get this special board material?

It's mica, but I'm not sure where to buy it for your purpose. There is a version used as the waveguide window in microwaves but I suspect that's probably thicker than the stuff used as element support.  You can buy that quite cheaply e.g. Amazon came up when I googled for it. I've previously bought it from CPC.  Alternatively you might manage to salvage some from a scrap toaster element.

Interesting that you have a source of element wire; that would have had me stumped!
