Have been asked to quote for a CCTV system in a smallish car-park. Don't know much about gear so does anyone know of a good guide to installation and equipment???? Any suggestions for pitfalls to avoid would be appreciated aswell.

Hi Binky

What is the lighting like you need to use colour hard drive recording. What is the car park shaped like.

1. camera mounted on building or pole

2. where will it be veiwed from

3 where is the storage control kit going.

4.Look at a kit of sorts.

5. What is the budget

Recomend small speed dome with presets Approx

I think my biggest issue is feeding conduit all round the place, and voltage drop, so have put in big margin for labour and parts. I'm going to pop around a few car parks and look at other installations and copy:O

I'll be up your way soon.

I've got a local wholesaler to spec kit, just need to decide exactly what cable to run and pro's and cons of each method. If you don't mind I'll PM you later.

Ask also if you are to supply the signage stating that CCTV is in use or are they to supply it.

This signage must be displayed if any recording is to be used in court as evidence, found this out whilst working for a local council when we were having CCTV installed in one off the car parks.

That's a flipping good point - had completely forgotten about it - good thing I overpriced to allow for such things.

which wholesaler you using, as they wont have the experience needed ;) could you send me the details and i could spec it for you
The wholesaler keeps specialists in CCTV, fire alarms etc etc, they're kind of medium sized with about 15 branches. So I think they are OK on the general spec, but its things like I don't want to have to run 230V to 1 power supply per camera, cos that means double the conduit to segreagate circuits. but I'm unsure about running 24V over a max of @150m (reckon 2.5mm cable would do) to serve 7 cameras and whether this would interfere with the beldon cable signals, or indeed work at all. I'll ping you an e-mail of the gear they are trying to sell me.

Basically its only a smallish car-park without significant criminal issues. The plan is to use PTZ camears controlled from guardhouse with tilt and zoom - this minimises the number of camers and hopefully eliminates blind spots. Fixed cameras are to be used on entry and exit points (3 off). Its quite a contained area with few public entry points. Emphasis is on protecting the property not people (due to client's interests).

But as I say its the cable runs and stuff I'm most concerned about rather than the technical spec of the equipment.
