Got a call from a customer as the whole house has no electricity.

Problem was a faulty hot tub which I was loathe to investigate.

The system is TT.

There is an old 30mA elcb bakelite type rcd between the meter and metal cu.

The cable from meter to elcb is 10mm and from rcd to cu is 25mm!

The cu is a split load with an RCD protecting sockets etc.

However any fault on sockets etc causes the elcb and rcd both to trip hence all power is lost to house.

I propose to change the 10mm cable to 25mm.

I also propose to change the elcb with a time delayed 100mA rcd but would this be acceptable under 17th edition?

Also what about the additional protection required to meter tails when using a metal cu?

Any ideas?

Dave
