Hi all

I seem to be having a spate of RCD problems just lately.

I had to change a hagger rcd today as it was reading 300ms on 1x delta.

The new one is is reading ok on 1/2. 34ms & 24ms on 1x. And ok on the 5x

I know 34 is a fail. Can this happen on a new rcd?

34ms is a fail? .... A BSEN 61008/ 61009 RCBO is allowed up to 300ms on x1.

am I missing some thing here. over 200ms is a fail, 34ms is a pass

what I dont understand is on a rcbo 300ms is acceptable also a type s rcd

but 200ms on a rcd. why is this when really you need 0.4 sec disconnection, so 400ms should be ok

The limit for a BS4293 device is 200ms but for a BSEN61008 or 61009 it is 300ms. (OSG 11.2 and 11.3)

And just to add..

even at x5 In you have 40ms in which to operate..

(Reg 415.1.1, Big red, Additional protection, page 59)

so 34ms is all ok for x5 test as well IMHO.:);)

Woke up this morning realising that I had made a mistake, long day yesterday!

Easily done MalcyB, I am sure even the best of our members make the odd mistake or two. Even so it is still good to discuss the topic and confirm what are acceptable values.
