has anyone looked into this? I signed up tonight. 10quid for first 3 months then 40quid a quarter after that.

Its setup up is really good, you put in your postocode and work area and it shows you what jobs people are after in your area, how long they have been up for etc.

Example

Needed: Security Specialist in Blackpool, FY1

Job location, FY1

Distance: 3 miles

Install a fire alarm system in 3 storey house.

Description: The house has been divided into 2 flats - a 1 bed flat on groud floor and a 3 bed flat on the 1st and 2nd floors. Emergency lighting is also required.

Job start: ASAP

Budget:

I used this when i first started out, i cancelled it before the first 3 months ran out, i didnt seem right to me, i had a lot of " need consumer unit changing - budget

I had a guy phone me (ummm about 2 hrs after my free listing on yell.com) to say he could offer me insid deals! wow i said (ironic, though i thought i was impressed) he said he had info on jobs in my area, all i had to do was pay him for the details and he would give me the details of all building work going on in ther area that will need a spark. i said but the builder will, most likely, already have a spark lined up for the job! and anyway i can get this info for free in the local rags planning section. the phone went dead.

i guess this thing is the same type of gimmick, i would stay well clear, i dont know anyone who would use it to get a quote from a trades man.

Advertise in your local rag - its more effective because people like local tradesmen (you will of course get lots of annoying small jobs, but these build into bigger things later

spend your time on search engine optimisation, good website and html email campaigns to local businesses much better return. like others said a scam...

I agree with the others, keep away from it. Advertise in your local rag ALWAYS put your landline number whereever your advertising too.

I will never phone any business that doesn't display a landline number or it's proper address.

You are advertised in our "Directory of Electricians" aren't you?

rated people is a waste of time pal. i tried it to, spent an age messing about trying to get jobs, most were diyers in a mess and trying to tell me my trade and only wanting advice. commercial contracts are the way o go in my book.

I have had Rated People contacting me over the last few days.

Just seems dodgy to me and a waste of time.

i worked with a builder once that loved it, showed me the text messages they sent him and the reason he was on that particular job was because or them. I looked at their website once a week for the next few weeks after and there was never any jobs in my area so wasnt really worth it for me.

At one a tenner its nothing ventured nothing gained at worst. I can see these sort of things becoming alot more powerful in future with everyone getting conned by the BBC into believeing everyone is out to rip them off.

i agree

I was with them for a while when I first started out 20 months ago - and initially I thought it was quite good. However they got greedy and the charges to be put in contact with the customer for small jobs were extreme. Often the customer didn't wait for three quotes or was only testing the water - which didn't worry Rated People as they still got their money - but annoyed the hell out of me. Any major job needed to be applied for within 3 mins of it appearing on the site - making it more of a lottery.

By all means try the initial offer - but be aware of the pitfalls.

I initially thought it was a great idea ,but quickly found that I was quoting against electricians that were working for peanuts. Or the budgets were totally un realistic. I left after 3 months.

NSBS

I have not used them but have used quotatis or whatever the name which is a similar organisation.

You purchase the clients details and send off a quote based on the information.

You get the idea when in the reason section you find

Reason for enquiry " to find out how much it will cost" or words to that effect.

If you buy a clients contact details you will find 90% or more are time wasters.
