"Existing installations that have been installed in accordance with earlier editions of the Regs. may not comply with this edition (17th) in every respect.

This does not necessarily mean that they are unsafe for continued use or require upgrading. "

 
Quite true, I've had a few arguments over the years about this over the years where other sparks have done periodic inspections & condemned circuits for having green cpc sleeving not green & yellow or equally trivial departures, as an old boss of mine used to say "you don't need to fit seatbelts to a 1959 Morris Minor to get an MOT!"

However, if you do any work on that existing installation your work must comply with current regs and when Inspecting & Testing older installations that complied with regs when installed non-dangerous departures from current regs should be recorded as code 4 recommendations.
