hi

thought i would try to de-fuse;) all this fuss over the 17th edition 2382 exam thingy....

as a teacher, on the morning of day one i am always confronted by a sea of sullen faces, people resigned to their fate. so i need to break the ice and rid them of their suicidal tendancies:D

i will run this thread as i run it in class so ill start by asking you, why do you fit gromets in flush socket boxes?

To help prevent the cable getting damaged (by sharp edges)?.

:)

yes very good

but why do you REALLY do it, a bag of grommets is a quid-they add up8)

yes very good, but that is not THE reason why....

you have put in an installation to say part p and you have to notify/certify

in view of this now WHY did you put the grommet in the hole....?

Because when carrying out maintenance etc on the fitting pulling it out could cause stress damage to the cable if it is cut too short ??

whens tea break ??

NO!

to get the job compliant with part p say.....

you have to:

install it and issue a certificate and how do you issue a certificate?

Now why fit the insignificant grommet? why do you really HAVE to do it?

its gone quiet on here....... ?:|

why would you spend money on a grommet if it was not necessary?

why do you have to do it to get it certificated honestly?

ok then....

to do the rewire

you have to issue paperwork....

to issue the paperwork it has to comply with part p/BS7671....

obviously then some where in BS 7671 it states you must fit grommets in back boxes!

you are all a bit sluggish tonight8)

so you fit em not because you are good and great but simply because it is a regulation in the good book......agreed?

ok then, i have teased enough!

we know it is a reg, but where is it?8)

the way to find it is to pretend the reg has been invented by YOU and YOU have to insert it in the relevant section, so are you ready to discover the secret?

ok

if you have a standard, head for page 3 (contents).....

DO NOT look at all the light type, only the bold type

you will be confronted by 7 parts (ignore the 15 appendicies, they are mainly waffale and tables, this grommet deal is a real-living regulation)

if the reg was to be INSERTED by you, which PART (1-7) would you pop it?

I was going to suggest that it may have something to do with Eddy Currents. But I thought - No, It can't be.

Both Phas & Neautral condutors enter and exit through the same whole - Cancelling each other out.

nope!

heres a clue....

you walk to the van and get a grommet, then you walk to the box and fit it....

which part now? you must think in simple terms!!!!
