Part P Testing and Informing Local Authority

Appreciate knowing if anyone includes a separate price for Part P testing / completion of Installation Certificate, informing the Local Authority and also recovering the costs of being a member of the Part P scheme? If anyone does, is there any ball park price guideline? Thanks Bob

    Lighting Circuit - Part 2

Hi All, I am still workimg on tracking down a dodgy light fitting / cable in a house which has 10 plus rooms upstairs - 20 plus light fittings. After a tough day in an attic trying to resolve the problem, I still have some questions that I do not know the answers:- 1. Apparently if I just...

    Lighting Circuit Blowing........

Megger the cct and find out where the short is - job done! I know how to use my test kit to carry out the Insulation Resistance test, what I do not know is how I can use the results to find the exact location of the short. Regards Bob

    Lighting Circuit Blowing........

Hi, I have been thinking about Deke's use of the 100 W bulb to isolate the Lighting cct problem. What I am having difficulty in understanding, is if the problem causes a 5 Amp fuse wire to melt, won't the bulb just blow as well, if connected across the fuse way? I must be missing something...

    Lighting Circuit Blowing........

Thanks for the helpful feedback so far. There is an extremely frail old lady, who effectively lives in one room downstairs. A neighbour has asked me to investigate the problem, there is no obvious reason for the onset of the problem apart from the age of the wiring and the possibility of...

    Lighting Circuit Blowing........

Thanks Deke for your fault finding process. A couple of questions:- 1. Will carrying out the IR test help me to find the fault any quicker? 2. Is there any need to remove all the bulbs or should I have left them in and carried out the test as you described? Thanks Bob N.

    Lighting Circuit Blowing........

Hi, No I didn't carry out a Insulation Resistance (is this IR?) test on the cct, is it possible to have an insulation breakdown but which a Resistance test will not pick up on? Bob

    Lighting Circuit Blowing........

Hi All, a 5A wired fuse. I first took out every light bulb - 10 plus upstairs rooms(would like to know an easier way to fault find), disconnected the the lighting cable from the CU and measured the resistance between Line & Neutral and to Earth and found the readings to be >99.9K ohms in...

Extractor Fan & Light Switch Wiring

I thought Apache had the best answer - who wants to pee in the dark if the fan develops a fault! Thanks for the response. Bob

    Cooker Face Plate

Hi All, I have just swopped a Cooker Socket (hidden behind the cooker) for a Cooker face plate because Curry's are not allowed to do it although they are then able to take the cover off and wire up the new cooker? My Client is insisting on a Certificate because Curry's are saying that they...

Extractor Fan & Light Switch Wiring

Hi All, My Client wants a switch on the wall for their ensuite bathroom to turn on the light and the fan c/w timer. My concern is that I believe that a Fan needs to be able to be isolated but a pull cord scenario only turns off the power to the light and the fan until the timer runs out. Do I...

    Another Newbie!

Hi Septiclecky & Heathelect, I decided to join ElecSa, they where extremely helpful with their initial advice. As for seamless conduit, it's the point at which the conduit connects to the coving and doesn't look odd. I believe that you cut out enough coving to match the thickness of the...
