Called out this morning to "My shower has gone bang".

So picks up 50a pull switch and attends.

Checks pull switch, absolutely fine. Cover off shower. Everything absolutely fine.
Meggers cables fluxling between 79-130Meg.

OK not great, but not a short. Disconnect shower output. Reset the circuit breaker. Pull the cord.

BANG. From behind the shower.

Thinks odd, maybe a screw through cable and it moves when the shower come on ?

Nope !

SEE PICS BELOW

15a plastic connectors, wrapped in tape. Melted and melted into the shower and into the heater element cover.

Customer says "That will be why I've smelt something funny while taking a shower for the last few weeks!!!!!"

Anyone else any horror stories this week ?

A couple of weeks back I had to replace a faulty timer fan....

Found the old fan wired in T&E..
with
Red = Live.
Black = Switched Live.
CPC = Neutral.

Bathroom fitters had installed it along with bathroom refurb in 4x downlights..

Investigations in loft found nice wiring methods..

Why bother wasting time connecting all those bare CPC's?

[ All cables all were re-terminated into more suitable enclosures & 3core+E installed to replacement fan... and 4x downlights re-terminated]

Another classic example of bathroom fitters ripping off a customer, who thinks everything is OK because its working!"!!
and what should have been a simple fan replacement ended up costing the customer over £250+ with labour & materials!!
