    Economy 7 Rewire

I like your hourly rates.  Very similar to mine!

    Economy 7 Rewire

Cheers to all for advice etc.  The idea of separate timers for the immersion heater and storage heaters just seemed to be very logical to me.  The timers are £10 for 3 so by the time you buy meter tails etc for another board it's a simpler install imo.  The customer didn't want 2 boards in the...

    Economy 7 Rewire

Hi and thanks for your advice on this everyone.  It kind of clicked after I made the post and did a bit of reading elsewhere that the radio teleswitch tells the meter to log off-peak KWh used through both line meter tails.  It's just that the old setup ran one board off the off-peak only meter...

    Economy 7 Rewire

Hi all, Doing my first one of these today. In the meter box there is the standard supply head (PME) and the line and neutral meter tails go into some hendy boxes.  One line meter tail then goes into the E7 radio teleswitch box and out to the old E7 consumer unit controlling the storage heaters...

    Automatic Fire Detection Systems

Thanks a lot.  At a very expensive online retailer clearly :)

    Automatic Fire Detection Systems

Hi all. Just pricing my first one of these systems for a small retail unit.  Does anyone know why the bits are so bloody expensive?  The fire control boards seem to be around £1,000 before you even start on detectors, break glass boxes and sounders. Don't even get me started on the cost of red...

What Do You Do When Customer Wants To Do Some Of The Work Themselves?

Thanks for the comments about quoting blind.  On reflection this is a fair point.  I did make it clear to the customer though that any issues like earthing would need to be resolved.  He is going to pay for the earthing to be upgraded as he recognises he gave me duff info on this.  I think once...

What Do You Do When Customer Wants To Do Some Of The Work Themselves?

Hi Notch was a typo, apologies for this.  I am well aware of the requirement to run cables at least 50mm below the flooring i.e. through drilled holes in the centre of joists.  Your reply is a bit abrupt tbh and gives off an impression of superiority which I am sure you didn't mean to convey...

What Do You Do When Customer Wants To Do Some Of The Work Themselves?

Hi all.  I'm doing some work for a gent who wants to do more and more of the work himself to save money.  Effectively he wants to lift all flooring and notch joists ready for me to run cabling.  I have no huge problem with this but now he's talking quite honestly about getting me to run fused...

    Van Theft Tools

Wish there was a system that would allow you to electrify just the door handles overnight.  That would soon stop them trying to nick stuff!

    Cert Software

I made my own forms for the certificates.  They are completed on Excel, so you can either use an iPad or Pocket PC at work or print the blank form off and fill it in on site before typing it in at home. If anyone wants them then just PM me.

    Header Tank

Hi mate.  I work as a plumber/sparky and imo I would use this - http://www.fernox.com/problem+solving/how+to+sheets/guide+to+disinfection .  If the system hasn't been used for a year I would recommend it to my customers.  The tank and cylinder will have some interesting germs in them by now I...

Measuring Energy Usage On Distribution Circuit

Hi.  I'm putting together a quote for a retail outlet at the moment.  They have a requirement to monitor energy usage on one of their distribution circuits within the building (powering a small cafe).  I haven't been asked to do this before so can anyone point me to a reliable product?  Ideally...

Wiring Modular Flourescent Lighting (4 Lamp Unit) with Emergency Backup

That's weird, it's showing up on mine. Anyway, all the photo shows is that everything inside the lighting unit is wired in single core cabling. Not using DALI at all.
