    mortar silo

To be honest I was asking so I could learn for future reference, I've worked out the cable calculations and protective device rating but I don't know a great deal about the requirements for meter tails. Thanks for the replys though :) the job is in essex

    mortar silo

I've been offered a bit of work installing the supply for a 3 phase mortar silo on a building site (I'm not sure if I'm going to do it though, I might pass it on), so I was wondering if anyone could give me a bit of advice. The supply is 3 phase TN-S though I haven't measured Ze as I haven't...

What colour is it where you are ?

Wooden conduit, thread wrapped conductors- those were the days (I do a fair bit of refurb of old properties).

    New Build House

The Loop at Switch method was never taught to us at college, but when I saw it on site used for multiple down lighters (which is what most clients seem to want these days) it seemed pretty handy. Incidentally I work down south but the sparkies who were doing the work were trained by a bloke from...

    patching up ceilings

I use Prodave's method, but if I'm reusing the cut-out bit of plaster board then I'll stick a couple of 2mm packers between the batton and ceiling (so it is slightly recessed) and then skim with easyfill and sand down.

Help with lighting fault please, strange test readings

Sorry for the late reply; I went back and checked all the light fittings and found ceiling rose smashed up, changed it and checked various connections at switches etc. Then disconnected all loads, and isolated the ground floor lighting circuit. Did R1+R2 at switches and ceiling roses, reading...

Help with lighting fault please, strange test readings

I have a problem with a lighting circuit, 80ohm resistence from the line and neutral to earth at most of the lighting points on the ground floor circuit, the person who installed the lighting that I am supposed to be changing has not connected the CPC and there is a junction box (I think) hidden...

Help with a lighting fault please?

I would agree with Robin Spark that if you do an IR test at the CCU and there is a problem then you need to break the circuit down and do IR tests on each section to isolate the problem to a section of cable or a particular fitting imho

    Hello to our New Members...

Hi all, my name is Derek and I have just started my c&g 2330 level3 and am hoping to get more distinctions. I am currently working as skilled labour for a contractor, sometimes helping the Sparkies out, and doing small private jobs myself (though nothing that is notifiable yet).
