    Dilemma

I have just been to quote for a job of replacing a fuse box for a 17th edition CU. it's an easy domestic job but the customer does not want me to do the initial inspection afterwards. He obviously wants to watch his money. Where do I stand on this legally and according to the regs? He just wants...

    Boiler Wiring

Just wondered if I have done the right thing as I couldn't find anything in  the regs, I spotted in a customers house that their boiler was plugged into a socket with a 13A plug on the kitchen ring main. I suggested that it would perhaps be better to use a more permanent connection using a...

Niceic Approved Contractors Scheme In Scotland

Scottish building Regs - is what I meant, very similar to the english part P regs according to the IET. As regards not being an electrician, the IET stated that there really is no definition - technically speaking, according to them, I should be called electrical/electronics engineer because of...

Niceic Approved Contractors Scheme In Scotland

As I didn't do an apprenticeship as an electrician I was told in no uncertain terms by SELECT that I really couldn't be an electrician in Scotland - unless I did one of their approved adult training schemes which takes 4 years. SECTT and SELECT said that this was the ONLY way. I spoke to the IET...

    Dimming Led Lights

Wireless Door Entry System - Recommendations

My client has asked me to get a wireless door entry system for them. They want to be able to hear a buzzer or an indication that there is someone at the door and to be able to talk to the callers but are interested in and automated latch system. They also have specified a two-way hand-set for...

    Earth Leakage Test

If you don't know the answer please don't reply I'm looking for information not waffle.

    Earth Leakage Test

I've had a few inconclusive IR results on the fluorescent lights I'm testing, they are way too low but everything else checks out OK so I'm sure they are good. If I put a AC clamp meter around the CPC cable going out from the DU what sort of leakage current would I expect to see for a healthy...

    Finding Services To Check Earthing

I've just come back from a quotation for a client for a PIR, this will be my 4th so far. To say that the duty holder was a little unhelpful was an understatement !! It's the first he has had done and he didn't have a clue where all the services came in. I discovered a boilor had been mounted in...

    Bathroom Wiring

I am helping a friend with some bathroom wiring but I have a couple of things I am not sure of. His flat is an older one with a fuse box. I seem to remember from my regulation exam a few years ago that all bathroom wiring has to connected to an RCD in the fuse box....would that be correct ? The...
