Off-peak circuit not working - what next?

That's what my electrician said, it should never have happened and if it wasn't so long ago I'd be making a complaint to the developers. I bet the contractors didn't bother to test it properly because they'd have had to come back between 00.30 and 07.30am!

Off-peak circuit not working - what next?

Happy days everyone, we swapped the black concentric cables over after getting reassurance from NICEIC, and everything is now working as it should! Thank you all for the advice and suggestions - I have learned a lot.

Off-peak circuit not working - what next?

That's what I was thinking. The building management company have already said that supplies to individual properties aren't their responsibility, but I will ask the ex-neighbours' landlords for their permission in writing (they are up to speed on what is happening)

Off-peak circuit not working - what next?

I'm pretty sure he's competent, just cautious - as swapping the outputs would affect the meter readings. In this case I lose out as I'm the one who has been using kwh more compared to my neighbours, but imagine if it was the other way around  He's going to ask NICEIC for advice. Just...

Off-peak circuit not working - what next?

Hi everyone I got the spare keys to the neighbour's flat and tested everything last night, turning on one fuse switch at a time then checking whether the associated CUs were energised or not with a no-contact tester. As expected, "my" off-peak fuse switch only energises the neighbour's...

Off-peak circuit not working - what next?

Thanks guys, you're right, I tried last night but the no-contact tester method didn't work as it couldn't detect a current through the thick outer cable, even on the ones which were definitely live. I'll try it again tonight with by switching the off-peak switch fuses off one at a time. Ideally...

Off-peak circuit not working - what next?

Here you go - the ones with red dots are my meter and switch fuses (off-peak at the top), the blue ones are my neighbour's. Let me know if I've missed any key bits or need anything zoomed in. All of the black cables are routed out of a hole in the ceiling of the meter cupboard. When we tested...

Off-peak circuit not working - what next?

Just had another chat with the neighbour and she said they never used their storage heaters, just the hot water, so this seems more likely now.

Off-peak circuit not working - what next?

Well, the heating and hot water came on last night after the meter was topped up so it's confirmed - the neighbours have been paying my bills 🤯 Now we just need to figure out how it's happened! Has anyone ever come across something like this before?

Off-peak circuit not working - what next?

Hello all No update yet as although the neighbour has turned everything back on, the previous tenants were on a pre-payment meter which needs topping up. So the landlords need to set up an account to do that first. Meanwhile the building managers are sending me keys to various locked service...

Off-peak circuit not working - what next?

Agreed, it needs sorting. Not least because they could turn off my heating and hot water whenever they like! And the landlord may wonder how they can be racking up charges when the property is empty between tenants. The landlord has switched everything back on today, so we should know by the...

Off-peak circuit not working - what next?

Good question. I've looked back through historic meter readings and I seem to average around 21kwh/month on the off-peak rate in summer, 29kwh in winter. Have never given it much thought before, but having done a quick google search that seems very low for running two storage heaters (one...

Off-peak circuit not working - what next?

We tested it early this morning during off-peak hours and there was a live current going into the isolator switch. The meter was showing "rate 2" as the active rate, and it has clocked up a few kwh on rate 2 since it was installed (from other appliances running overnight on the main circuit such...

Off-peak circuit not working - what next?

He says he "put the link between line and cpc" and there was no continuity. He did disconnect the supply and say something about shorting out one end - he connected two clips to the isolator switch - this was the point where he lost me 😄 but yes, I think he tested it. A new theory has...

Off-peak circuit not working - what next?

I've texted him to ask if he did a continuity test on the cable... will report back. For argument's sake, let's say he did and it's intact - what else could the problem be?
