Had similar on a recent call out, person who had done some "diy" had taken a spur off a 30 amp shower circuit in 1 mm flex.
It was for a socket in the loft.
The load live in the switch was totally burnt back from loose connection!!!
Was drilling some trunking for a replacement leg of a damaged kitchen circuit, and drilled with my first hole straight into the cooker cable. Massive flash around the trunking!! The cables were not run in the correct zones so had no idea cables were there.
Also this took out the main 60A fuse...
The circuit was still live at the time as it was only the cpc. It just surprised me as never seen that happen on a cpc before.
Will check circuit as got a new tester and wanted to get used to it.
Removed a cpc from a ceiling rose because it looked like it wasnt terminated correctly, as i loosened the screw it arced!
Surely that is not right.Done a quick test and got 60v between e and n.
This is at my house which was a new build 3 years ago. Had no other probs. Any ideas what is causing...
hi
I fitted a new hob for a client, He contacted me and said that when he turns on the back two rings, it shows the warning lights that shows it is hot, these are the wrong way around. So the left light goes on when the right ring is heating up and vice versa? Any ideas why. An engineer is...
1st fixing kitchen extension this weekend, looking for some help with running cables and chasing. Anyone round Watford area willing to help and gain some experience. Pm me with your details.
Thanksguys,
Things are so juicy now, so the old supply cables of 16mm are not up to the job? If some one wanted a 9 or 10 kw shower, induction hob and double oven and normal household circuits could you just put 25mm tails in from meter? or would you have no choice and get supply upgraded...
Am i right in saying you measure current by testing in series, voltage in parralllel across supply. You can disconnect the earth to the circuit and test with a multimeter on mamps setting, from the met to the cpc of the circuit. This would show the milli amps flowing in the cpc. ?
My question is on calculating the total load allowed on different main tail sizes. I have asked my colleagues and fellow students the same question, and got different answers. What is your opinon, do you follow the regs to the book by calculating the total current demand and apply diversity? Or...
