    Evolution Saws

Great bits of kit, I have had the chop saw, now sold onto someone else who was impressed when seeing me use it, the sliding mitre saw and the hand held circular. They all work very well and accurately, after a bit of adjustment, I have also sorted out the problem with the circular saw binding by...

    Duel Source Towel Rail Problems

Yes the radiator has been refilled, and I was testing the element alone and disconnected from the switched spur as well as by the MCB at the DB, I will have to do some more digging and testing the next time I go back, I just thought that somebody might have come across a similar problem before..

    Duel Source Towel Rail Problems

I agree that the test between L&N was probably the resistance of the element I was more concerned with the L-PE and N -PE both reading 0.0M ohms, which would of course trip the RCD. I would also agree that maybe the original element wasn't faulty, hence why the question about any ideas...

    Duel Source Towel Rail Problems

Hi just after a bit of advice, I have been called back about a year after installing an electrically heated towel rail that is also connected to the central heating pipework. The fault caused the RCD to trip when ever the towel rail fused spur was turned on, I checked insulation resistance and...

Live Or Dead Testing - A Question For Members

As an additional additional thought you then have the option to add R1+R2 to the Ze as expressed by the SEB/SSB etc? normally 0.1Ohm, but I would always do a Zs in any case.  But if the installation is live and working and has essential services running you can't take R1+R2 readings unless you...

    RCBO problem

I'd PAT test the offending items throw the faulty one in a bin and definitely not remove the RCBO as degrading the safety of the circuit is surely against the regs!

    Information required

Thanks Andy and Doc, looks like I'll be fabricating a mounting bracket for the miniature pull cord switch as mentioned by you both, thanks I knew I could count on TEF.

    Information required

I have a problem with a pull switch on a Chinese made mirror light which has an intermittent connection. Apart from the obvious wiring fault (single switch connected in the neutral) the main problem is finding a suitable replacement switch, I have tried RS and Maplins, and have searched the...

    Testers

hi, apprentice87 Well I stand corrected, certainly when I was purchasing my MFT, the megger's came with a fabric case and no 3pin 13a test lead, they must have raised their game since then. Each to their own, its a matter of choice. Mark

    Testers

The Fluke does the same, zeroing leads stays in memory even after power off, although I always re-zero before testing. I find the fluke more user friendly than the megger and it sits better being curved than the megger, also the hard case is much more usefull than the material one on the megger...

    Hi there!

m4tty, Thanks for the welcome, to be honest with you this year it hasn't stopped, I don't seam to have enough hours in the day or enough days in the week, working a minimum of 6 days a week, and still can't get everything done. I can't complain though as last year the recession really hit...

    Qualification Shake Up!

From what I understand, the changes in qualifications as published in the amendment of the 17th edition is not retrospective and only cover QS, in other words if your already a practising electrician and qualified supervisor you will be able to continue without any further NVQ's or C&G's...

    On Site Guide

I have often looked to see that myself, and apart from a couple of cable calculators, with limited use, everthing else appears to be useless, unless of course you work in the USA and happen to use AWS sized cables and not metric.
