    People arguing in forums

I've done an apprenticeship with c&g 236 parts 1,2, c course, am1 and 2, c&g 2391 and was niceic qualified supervisor for 10 years with 25 years in the trade. Thanks for coming onto a forum about people arguing on forums and saying I haven't got a clue when clearly you know nothing...

No, born in Surrey now in Hampshire, do you have a point or have I missed something?

Yep, I think people in cars are far braver in abusing each other whereas people on the street who are face to face are polite-ish

    Contactor problem

I think it is the contactor by the way it is pulling in when resetting the power but I would look at redesigning the system to make it more user safe

    Contactor problem

I'm assuming push to make retractive switches pulling in a timed contactor

    Contactor problem

I'm not sure what the problem can be without testing it but my comment would be that it seems a bit of a naff setup for a plant room. In the middle of replacing a pump the lights go out and you have to scramble across a dark room with tools on the floor to reset the lights? Sounds a bit dangerous

    People arguing in forums

I agree and I find it quite laughable when people come on and say that they are electricians but can't work out a cable size but I find it quite shocking how this can very quickly turn into a torrent of abuse! I like to give advice and I have asked advice on other forums on such things as...

    People arguing in forums

It always amazes me how people talk to each other in forums. i view several forums and find that some people are very helpful and others answer questions with total disregard. i equate it similar to driving, if you are walking down a high street and someone exits a shop and bumps into you, you...

Help needed..! Wiring 3 bulbs with an in-line rocker switch.

Find a suitable/discreet place to install a small joint box or adaptable box and wire all of the lamp holders, switch and plug to this point in the 3 core flex. Connect all neutrals together in the joint and run the live from the plug , through the switch and to the lamp holders. Make sure the...

    RCCB tripping randomly

I definitely wouldn't have him back in your house, accept you've lost £90 and  1. Get a decent spark in to fix and get a report with photos  2. Report to trading standards and anybody he is affiliated to. 3. Name and shame on here!

    RCCB tripping randomly

I'd be interested to know what he did with the other B50 and B6 mcb's, another job perhaps? looks to me like he's split rings across breakers!

1.http://www.belling.co.uk/media/626815/444443931-Bel-FS50EDOPC-Sta.pdf 4. Experience, sometimes cable is marked if you can see enough 5. If you don't fit it at least keep it in case you ever call out manufacturer, they'll try anything to get out of warranty and if stability bracket is not...

Installing a new cooker - various questions

    1. Manufacturers instructions say 4mm but I'd go 6mm  2. Yes 3. No fuse at isolator but if you have a 32a MCB in place at the moment then leave it as is. If it trips (unlikely) at full load then replace with a 40 IF you have confirmed that you have a 6mm cable installed 4. Yes 5. Yes, if it...

    Cable crimpers!!

If you don't use them often just hire a set from a wholesalers, if you use them regularly then hydraulic every time. Nothing worse than struggling with crappy crimpers when in the middle of a shutdown

Light switch activating extractor fan in next room

If it's only started happening recently and there has been no electrical work done recently then I would recommend you get it checked out

Never heard of this before in 30 years! Does it happen every time?

    Under rated mcb

Has the MCB tripped? The pullcord will be larger than the MCB as it has to break the full load current. The 9.5 Kw shower will pull approx 38 amps so should be on a 40 amp MCB, however do NOT fit a bigger MCB before checking if the cable size is large enough. You say you've just moved in, do...

    Power needed to my shed.

Easy answer, no sorry! If you just needed it for lighting you MAY have been in luck but as you are intending to use a fairly high load then no. You will need to run a new cable, preferably from the consumer unit, it will need to be rcd protected and should be installed by a qualified...
