Question about upgrading to 3 phase

.... and there is still every chance you won't need any of it and the existing 100A supply will be fine for your intended loads :)

Question about upgrading to 3 phase

I'm no expert on how such a system is exactly implemented (I'm sure others on here could tell you) but in logging energy use in the field we have come across a couple of situations where a complete installation is running from a big "off grid" PV inverter (so no feed in), with any excess going...

Question about upgrading to 3 phase

As others have said it is likely that you don't actually need the 3 phase upgrade. We have been involved in a lot of maximum demand surveys and you would be surprised how little domestic installations draw from the grid at any point in time, even with electric heating, showers, cooking, etc. The...

    Diversity

Instead of using diversity calculations you could perhaps try logging the installation for a couple of weeks and see what sort of current demand actually occurs. You may be surprised how low it really is. We were involved in a case recently where 5 flats were fed from a 100A fuse, with no known...

Discrepency between consumption data. smart meter V inhome display.at

Ah I see. Sorry, I thought the IHD may have had its own clamp. If, as you say, the IHD talks directly to the smart meter its hard to see how or why it would display a different reading. It will be interesting to see what the answer turns out to be.

Discrepency between consumption data. smart meter V inhome display.at

I have seen this before where it was due to the inability of the IHD (or rather the current clamp feeding it) to measure all of the current that was being consumed. In that case the IHD clamp had a poor frequency response (lower cost) and did not include the higher frequency currents (harmonics)...

    Maximum Demand exceeded

The short term exceeding of the fuse/cut-out rating is an interesting one. I'm just writing up another case study from a pub with rented rooms above it, all on a single phase 100A fused supply, where a 3 week log showed a max current draw of 126.6A, which occurred one evening but only spanned a...

    Maximum Demand Query

If it helps I just wrote an article about maximum demand measurement as an alternative to diversity calculations following a case study on a multi-occupancy building in Richmond, London (5 flats in a converted house of 50 years). It has a single phase 100A supply split into 6 and in a 2 week log...

EICR for an installation that cannot be switched off

I'll see what large diameter flexiclamps we have that would be suitable to connect to a Qualistar and will send you one to play with. It may be that we have a better solution as a stand alone current measurement device. Ill check that out too. Ill also look to see what the best sensitivity is...

EICR for an installation that cannot be switched off

Gents, thanks so much for your detailed answers, I really appreciate the time and effort you have put into this. So it looks like there is quite a lot of fairly comprehensive testing and inspection that can be done live. The idea of measuring earth leakage as an alternative to insulation...

EICR for an installation that cannot be switched off

Hi all, Here is a question we got asked today. We know the HASWA is in place to cover all aspects of safety at work, and can be viewed as the statutory document. And the EAWR 1989 are specific to electrical installations used in the work place. And we know a way of ensuring conformance with...

New GM at Chauvin Arnoux UK

Hi All, Since this forum has an "Introduce yourself" section I thought I better had. Many of you will know me already, or may have encountered me some time during my 34 years in the UK test and measurement industry.  My name is Julian Grant, and following decades in senior management roles at...
