    Spot the difference...

Just trying to get a feel for the tech, are the slots interchangeable like that, or are units designed to accommodate only one type of switch?

    Spot the difference...

Can the RCBO's in the new unit be replaced with RCD/MCB's?

    Spot the difference...

Thank you both, were MCB/RCD's very dangerous then, I didn't hear anything about them?

The older one has been replaced with the newer one, I just wanted to know the difference? Is my diagnosis right, I don't have any experience with electricity...

    New Phone Cable Issues...

Thank you Geoff, there is nothing wrong with the line as when the original phone is plugged in it works no problem, the cable that runs to where the phone is is very long and goes through two walls, are you saying that needs to be replaced?

unfortunately I have no choice, I just get who the letting agents send, and they're normally a bit Frank Spenceresque...

    Lighting loops and consumer box...

All jokes aside, that is a common rogue traders storyline, ie. tradesman completely misdiagnoses the issue, missing the quite obvious fault...

    Lighting loops and consumer box...

Straight away he noticed the shocking lack of an RCD, then he took the front off the box and examined the wiring, then took pictures to show to his gaffer... Do you think I should call Matt Allwright lol?

    Lighting loops and consumer box...

Understood, I was just reporting what the electrician said today, do you think he is untrustworthy or incompetent?  Just to recap, the shared neutral needs sorting via a new cable, but like I said the electrician said today that the extremely concerning consumer box issue needed sorting before...

    Lighting loops and consumer box...

Do you think he could be unscrupulous?   All I want is the lighting loops on separate fuses, if he does that I'm happy, I don't pay or chose the electricians, they are just sent by the  letting agent and the landlord pays.

    Lighting loops and consumer box...

Ok so a new electrician has just visited, he was very shocked that the new consumer unit doesn't have something called an RCD??  He is now saying the whole circuit board needs to be replaced and he will talk to his gaffer... 🤔

    Lighting loops and consumer box...

Is there no way to have the upstairs lights and downstairs lights on separate protective devices like we had with the old consumer unit, therefore only letting one floor go dark when a bulb blows?
