New light fitting - tripping rcd immediately

I just swapped it for a new one and it was fine first time. Problem solved. Thanks to everyone who responded and helped me fine the resolution. Locked to prevent being resurrected (again)

New light fitting - tripping rcd immediately

Thanks all again for your responses. I've connected the old light and it's working fine, so looks like I didn't go through a cable. I'll post some pics of the light fitting itself as suggested, but there's not a great deal to see. It's all hidden behind some white flex.

For clarity one side is the supply end, the other is the light fitting itself. They're designed to be screwed in separately and then the black connectors fit together with ease so you don't have to screw them in whilst holding the light up high...

Thanks both. I will try the other fitting next week to double check. Would be ideal if it's a faulty fitting as I'm not to blame!

Not sure I follow? I'm assuming I've potentially gone through the cable in the ceiling which isn't visible and can't tell which way it goes in ceiling. There's a bit of slack, maybe 10cms, which I can pull down and there's no sign of any damage, but may be further up the cable...?

Yes it's from Next and you're right, it's the light end side.

New light fitting - tripping rcd immediately

Ah ok. Possible yeah. Thanks for the responses. The cable doesn't have much slack so hard to check. 🤦

New light fitting - tripping rcd immediately

Not an electrician, but have fitted many ceiling light replacements over the years as DIY jobs (badly no doubt!), but have an issue with one today. Seemingly simple replacement with only a single live (supply is red), single neutral (black) and an earth. Previous fitting was simple so just...
