Hi guys,
Here to bother you with another boring design question.
I am running through my design course and doing great so far.
I've just completed all of the required lighting circuits, so I'm good with Ib<In<It, calculating SWA as protective conductor, adiabatic requirements, etc.
I have...
Hi Guys,
I have a question about derating for grouping factors.
I understand how to use Cg (etc..) and why.
But what would be the maximum run of grouped cables to not have a derating factor applied?
eg. cables leaving the rear of a CU could be grouped for a very short run, possibly only ~50mm...
This perfectly sorts my confusion.
Thank you.
I suppose i was wondering why we don't physically record fault currents at the end of a circuit, like with the PEFC/PSCC tests at the origin, but as you say the Zs covers that.
Also, am I understanding correctly that the Ia is the fault current...
Hi guys,
I might be having a brain fart on this one, but can anyone enlighten me on this one:
(Stop me if I'm talking bum at any point)
When designing a circuit you calculate the R1+R2, add it to the Ze, end up with Zs.
You then do Uo x Cmin ÷ Zs to get your PEFC.
So you have a PEFC based off...
This was my basic thinking, he was adamant that you basically do both an EIC and an EICR, in so many words, as separate entities.
As I say I'm still at the start of my learning, so I didn't argue, just questioned.
Just thought I'd check.
Thanks guys
Hi guys,
I was talking to an electrician recently and we got chatting about consumer unit changes (I'm training currently so thought I'd pick his brains), and he mentioned something that I was unsure about.
He said after you do a CU change, you HAVE to do a full condition report of the entire...
Ah I've seen this mentioned, so you could run jus line and neutral in metal conduit and use the conduit itself as the CPC?
(I know we're going off subject for the thread, just interested)
Can I ask what you mean by this? I thought reference methods were just basically just accounting for the route the cable takes?
(I'm still learning so genuine question)
This is my thinking the training is genuinely good and the tutor is very knowledgeable. So, knowledge wise I'm on the right path, but what good is that if I can't prove it at the end 🤷
Jesus you lads go though some nonsense.
Thanks for all this extra information, I have put effort into looking for it but there is so much to look for (and lots of contradicting information)
that I never know what to think most of the time
I have that doc but I haven't looked at it since the start of the course, and it was all non-sense back then, but thanks for pointing me to it cause that makes things a little more confusing...
Am I understanding correctly that notifying through a CPS, will be free (minus the obvious yearly...
That's an interesting series of events, and sad if that was/is the state of things.
I do think the idea of flexible training is a great idea, as there are plenty of people like me that wish they had done all this at college when they were 17.
I certainly make a better student now at 33 than I...
I have just got off the phone with NAPIT, who where very helpful, they recognise all of the qualifications I listed bar the Building Regs and PAT (obviously they don't care much about PAT) so that's the good news. The bad news is that, as has been mentioned here, I will not have a core level 3...
This was my original thinking, electrical work is all electrical work, as in an added spur basically doesn't change if it happens to be in a business property.
So you make a good point about it being marketed as a 'domestic' course.
I need to have a word with my trainer like you say.
Thanks
