Electrician cuts installed cables because they are dangerous!!

Update. They have sent an independent electrician to the property who has conducted a detailed report. Not only did he confirm what I had said he also pulled the new install apart. He tested the circuits at socket points and found no faults on the circuit that could be seen. He confirmed that...

Electrician cuts installed cables because they are dangerous!!

I have just sent them an email threatening legal action, I will be on the phone in the morning to find out which numpty works on the Elesca technical line who thinks an electrician can cut all the supply from a property. Hi Kathleen, I am so sorry to hear that the advise and guidance I have...

Electrician cuts installed cables because they are dangerous!!

Just had my daughter on the phone in tears, having no positive reply from the electrician or building company she called Elesca, who informed her that an electrician can cut off the supply!! Looks like the help team need further training. They did add that permission should be sought first. ...

Electrician cuts installed cables because they are dangerous!!

I have had an immediate reply to my email, the loss adjuster is visiting the builders offices tomorrow to discuss reinstatement to the circuits.  He has accepted that the actions of the electrician is a concern to all parties.

Electrician cuts installed cables because they are dangerous!!

He cut them close to the wall where it would be impossible to reconnect. I have just seen an email from the main contractor that even digs a bigger hole for him in that the electrician states that he was not prepared to leave the circuits in a position were they could be reconnected. His...

Electrician cuts installed cables because they are dangerous!!

The builders reply is that the electrician thinks he has done nothing wrong and disconnected because of safety. Only trouble is he has not disconnected, he has cut the cables so they can no longer be used. I am now going to do an email outlining the regulations and the law.

    Low IR readings on EICR

I would doubt that they are accurate. One thing in common with those circuits that are showing low readings are elements attached to them. To get proper readings they must be disconnected from the appliance, the heating element would reduce the reading as would any connected neon.

No test certificates issued as yet Rob. However I have Sidewinder on side and I would hate to see the outcome when he has finished with him lol

Electrician cuts installed cables because they are dangerous!!

I am seriously going to ask the scheme providers if they think it is allowable to unleash these so called electricians onto the public given the fact that they clearly do not understand the regulations and the law. They were supposed to be getting the property ready this weekend for her to move...

Electrician cuts installed cables because they are dangerous!!

I agree Prodave we will have to wait until Monday to get it resolved. I am just annoyed at being told to f off when I remained calm and just stated facts. He obviously underestimated my knowledge lol.

Electrician cuts installed cables because they are dangerous!!

Hello Everyone, long time posting but it's a good one.  My son-in-laws mother had a chip pan fire, she is in her 80's and very independent, as a result the kitchen had to be gutted and rewired. They asked my daughter if they wanted the house rewiring whilst the work was being undertaken as they...

    Thermal Imaging Camera

What is the bargain price ? We need one and are as yet undecided at which one to go for.

    low voltage tungsten lamps

Your calculations are way out. Remember the triangle? Voltage = current x resistance, power = voltage x current.

PVC Conduit around a 90 degree bend.

Still used to this day and is more common on commercial and industrial installs.

    low voltage tungsten lamps

@Lurch I think a 60w lamp has been fitted by mistake, and it should have been 40w. On turning up to any job we all assume that what is fitted should be replaced, which is where the problem lies.

PVC Conduit around a 90 degree bend.

If it's singles I prefer conduit to be fair. I would have used elbows, or used my experience of bending many lengths of steel and plastic to make it even neater.

    low voltage tungsten lamps

It would make sense, 40w would give 1.6A and a resistance of 15.6 ohms.

    Qualifications ?

I have had plenty of problems with city and guilds in tracking down my original certificates, these go back as far as 1976 to more recently 1991. They have lost all my records!! It was a good job that the JIB had details of my qualifications and from a young lad of 16 I had a JIB membership...

    Third Party certifying ?

I think it is a way of the scheme providers to generate more revenue. I personally and the company I work for would not do any third party certification. I have in the past been called upon by the LBC to test a suspect install, however I have only ever issued a PIR, or as now an EICR. Most if...

    low voltage tungsten lamps

Is it 25v dc by any chance? The resistance should be 10.4 ohms for a 60w lamp at 25v.
