Quiz of the week

Just watched a Youtube  demo .

Guy wants to show which type of connector will fail first  .      So   some bits of 1.5mm    connected  together with a standard  15A   connector ..... then a Wago ..... then  a blue butt crimp

& finally one of those Wingnut twisty things ,  cores twisted together,   like the old porcalain Screwits but   with  plastic insulation . 

The loop carries a current of 90 A    for a few minutes  ,  all insulation melts ,  copper is red hot  . Some flame rising plus smoke.     

Which connector failed first I ask    ( Just for fun)

The crimp failed first. The new firenuts have a metal thread inside that bites in to the copper.

Time for bed  can't leave it till tomorrow --------   so  the cable actually parted first ,   may have had a score in it from the stripper ,  a weak point ,  you can't tell .   I thought the Wago but although the plastic had gone  the two cores were still anchored ........ butt connector was the same  , metal bit still in place -----  connector was still connected -----  the Wingnut twisty thing  was still  in place .    

Which if you think about it, you’d probably expect the cable to go as it has far exceeded its CCC? The ratings on the connectors must be safe continued use ratings more for the plastic used rather than joint failure? 

Wago, then  crimp, then Screwit, and the choc block was left standing intact (though probably plastic melted)
