    Leaving the industry

I went to work for a medium sized company as a service engineer, mostly mechanical with some cnc but leading to more cnc and a lot easier work. Sick pay, holidays, bupa, car, clothes, tools and a lot of independence so I can get 4 long days if I want, yep 3 day weekend! salary late 20's and will...

    hob and seperate oven

One circuit is fine, you could use one isolator as well if they are within 2m. There are other regs to consider, length of run, thermal etc as to size of cable, number of circuits and isolation.

    Advice required please urgently

    1) If the loft socket is on its own circuit it could be faulty wiring as well as the appliance. Try to plug something else in and see if it trips then. 2) I always charged extra for faults and made sure the customer knew this before, depending on installation i may have done some tests before...

    Where are the bankers?

I have put this on a few different forums, the replys are all the same. No answer to the question, a fav rant about where the money goes, cliches about rich and poor and blame the govt. Sadly also a lot of apathy, having been on a few marchs over the years and seen no change to what was being...

    Where are the bankers?

How can we go about getting some of the rich people to help with this debt crisis? Funny how the bankers have gone quiet and councills and govt depts are getting the blame. All the tax dodgers (even Sir Bob G does it, allegedly) and mega wealthy could wipe it out and not even notice. While we...

    suspending metal conduit

You could always fit the conduit to the ceiling and use long drops for the pendants or dome plates and conduit drops, or hook paltes & chain to a pendant. lots of options.

    Advice please

You could ask them for a specification on what they want. This ususally means you can charge if you have to do it, as they are the designers it should be their job. If you choose and supply it get them to ok it before buying it. Not much help on the kit side I know but I have had problems with...

    suspending metal conduit

Used to use unistrut with zeb's but you need a good fixing for the unistrut as its heavy. Other than that put a plate on the ceiling, need to be on the joist and bolt through it and the britclips used to ok for this. A catlogue for unistrut brackets etc will give you some ideas for brackets and...

    Unable to test circuit

I'v come across similar before and fitted an isolator as close to pump as I could. This meant I could test circuit to isolator and just put unable to disconnect pump, or something similar. The main reason for doing it tho was in case the pump became faulty and took rcd out.

Sold my soul to the devil for what???

Agree with most of the comments about op but I didnt make a mistake i did the DPIR add on and only then was I told about not being able to promote it! I even did the 3 day course on it just in case I learnt something! So no advertising and no money back, had similar problems changing to AC, give us

Sold my soul to the devil for what???

I had exactly the same a few years back! Paid them even more money only to find Yell and everyone else think only AC can test so I couldnt even advertise, couldnt even list me on the NIC website as able to test! Argue the toss and change to AC there aint much difference to be honest and then you...

    in need of a rewire

I have tested and then changed cu on a rubber installation all results etc fine, test cert done for 3 years only. Old people and rewire would be too much. As customer said we been here 47 years and no one has died, feel a lot happier with new cu tho!

    Mixing Cable Sizes

Struggled to get 1.5 down exisiting switch drops too often and 1.5 has a 1.0 mm earth, and never thought of it but yes does save on copper. Do use both but not 1.5 on domestic. However would keep cable size the same throughout the circuit just in case of future changes.

    Testing someone else's electrical work

When I rang my local bc to see if they would accept a green eic or pir and I quote" dont care if its on loo paper as long as we get a cert" That was several years ago but they seem to readily accept greens for all things according to a couple of other sparks. You have to be happy with what you...
